Homework #10 Geant4 Simulations for Compton Scattering in Aluminum
نویسنده
چکیده
Compton scattering models in Geant4 are the following: a.) G4ComptonScattering: listed as ”compt” in the process name. No Rayleigh scattering in the model. b.) G4LowEnergyCompton: Process name is ”LowEnCompton” in the tracking code. It has errors in the treatment of Rayleigh scattering and does not account for Doppler broadening (the effect of bound electron momentum on the scattered particle energies). c.) G4LECS: Bound electron effects are corrected on ”shell-by-shell” basis. Rayleigh scattering is modeled using the coherent scattering cross section and form factor data. The Doppler broadening effect is included. Scattering of 100 keV photons in aluminum was simulated using the first two models described above. The only process that was turned on for photons was either ”compt” or ”LowEnCompton”. The number of incident particles

Homework #9 Geant4 Simulations for Photoelectric Effect in Aluminum
Geant4 simulations were performed to determine electron binding energies in aluminum using two different implementation of the photoelectric effect: G4PotoElectricEffect and G4LowEnergyPhotoElectric. The incident photon energies used in the simulation were 20 eV, 100 eV, 1 keV and 2 keV. The binding energies of the knocked out electrons were calculated as a difference between photon incident en...
متن کاملOptical simulation and experimental measurement of gamma ray energy spectrum of plastic scintillators with different sizes
The application of large plastic scintillators is widely increasing in the different areas of industry, medicine and security due to technical and economic advantages. One of the main disadvantages of these detectors is the unknown position of Compton edge at gamma ray spectrum. In this research, GEANT4/GATE code has been used to simulate the gamma ray spectrum for different volumes of large pl...
متن کاملThe GEANT Low Energy Compton Scattering (GLECS) Package for use in Simulating Advanced Compton Telescopes
Compton gamma-ray imaging is inherently based on the assumption of gamma rays scattering with free electrons. In reality, the non-zero momentum of target electrons bound in atoms blurs this ideal scattering response in a process known as Doppler broadening. The design and understanding of advanced Compton telescopes thus depends critically on the ability to accurately account for Doppler broade...
متن کاملCompton scattering as a probe for materials investigation
This article investigates into the feasibility of using gamma radiation Compton backscatter spectra as a means of material characterization, with the view to developing a portable, hand held probe for investigative purposes such as searching for illicit substances hidden in wall or car door cavities.
متن کاملEnergy Deposition in a Graphene Field Effect Transistor Based Radiation Detector
The development of high-performance radiation detectors is essential for commercial, scientific, and securityapplications [1]. Due to the unique electronic properties of graphene (high-speed, low-noise), recent radiationdetectors utilize graphene field effect transistors to sense charge carriers produced by radiation interactions in agated semiconductor [2]. A study of the energy de...
